appearance , James was always told that he was going to look exactly like his father when he grew up, and he had hoped and hoped he wouldn’t. In the end, he did.
From his messy dark hair to his jawline, James seemed to look exactly like Harry save for a few minor details that he cherished perhaps a bit too much. Every now and again his shaggy locks had a tint of red in them, and after a few failed attempts at trying to permanently bring that red out he settled with the shimmer of it here and there. He tried to keep his hair a bit neater than his father’s had been when he was James’ age, but you only had so much time when rolling out of bed two minutes before class on the complete opposite side of the castle.
His eyes were another trait that seemed to be his father’s but upon closer examination one could notice that they were an odd combination of green and blue. Sure, the green was famously his father’s brilliant eye color as his mother always said, but the tiny bit of blue almost gave his eyes a grey look. After he few years he found the exact colors to mute the green and bring out the grey-ish blue hues.
The one things that was definitely not anything close to his father’s was his height. By the time James was in his third year he towered over both of his parents, clearly taking the Weasley genes. At a towering height, at least in his family, of 6’2” James felt, once again, more like his Uncles George and Ron than his parents. He didn’t start to bulk up until his fifth year when he was tired of being called a string bean by even the kids he picked on. Although he didn’t weigh a lot more than when he was younger, he definitely had an air of muscle to him. Sure, he still looked thin and lanky, just like every other male in his family, but he did have bigger arms than his father, though he could never get to the level of his Uncle Ron when he was James’ age. Let’s just say if he had to beat up someone he could hold his own.
When it came down to it, though, James still looked almost exactly like his father. The tiny details that he cherished about himself that were different from Harry were insignificant to others. All everyone else saw was Harry Potter but much taller. They even dressed the same, and as much as James wanted to change that he was too comfortable with his plain sweaters and shirts, jeans, and sneakers. If only he was like Teddy and he could look however he wanted.
tell me all about your pesky behaviour !
personality , Always feeling like he had never been payed attention to, James had developed a large bit of jealousy. Of course he had gotten his fair share of attention, but with having such a snobby little sister like Lily, a parentless “sibling” like Teddy, and such a huge family with tons of cousins it was hard to feel like you ever got a second of the day from your parents.
He was clearly a smart boy as he taught himself how to do the basics of life at a very young age from cook for himself and overall keep himself busy. If he put all his effort into all of his classes he would be very close to the top of his class, but since he didn’t care about a good amount of them he barely got by in most. Much like his father and uncles, James would much rather be getting into trouble and playing Quidditch than actually doing school work.
Being the oldest of two siblings, James was definitely the bossy type, which came in handy with being the Gryffindor Quidditch team captain. Usually his siblings didn’t listen to him, but if he pulled enough blackmail and threats out he could get them to do his dirty work. What else was being the oldest good for? He also found his tricks and pranks to be very useful when trying to sway someone to help him or do something for him. Of course the person usually wasn’t willing, but it still worked.
Although it would seem that he hated his life at home, he does love his family very much and would do anything for them. Anytime he sees or hears of someone picking on his siblings or cousins, he’ll do whatever it takes to make that person regret it.
His success with pranks and persuasion has lead to a high occurrence of cockiness, but when using the Potter name to get what you want you have to be cocky. His father did always tell him he would do big things, even if he said it to Albus as well. In the end, James is just like his father: wanting to change the name that was made for him and doing it through escaping at Hogwarts.

what about the story of your spiffy life ?
history , As the first child to Harry and Ginny Potter, James Sirius Potter the Second got everything he wanted. He was adored by his parents, being the perfect child they had hoped for. With almost uncanny resemblance to his father, Harry practically doted him around everywhere just to show everyone how much the baby was like him. Even with Teddy, Harry’s godson, being the same age and gathering a bit of attention as well, it seemed that James would be the star of the Potter family. That is until his siblings came along.
Having two younger siblings quickly put James on to the back burner. Of course, his father always had a soft spot for his mini-me, always claiming that James would live up to everything he did and do great things with his life. Little did he know that all his hopes and dreams would be the thing that discouraged his son the most.
Being the oldest of three siblings, and having to compete with Teddy, James learned how to do things on his own. Although Teddy was his best friend, at times he felt like he was overshadowed by the parentless boy. Obviously his parents felt the need to make him feel special since his real parents had died, but what about their own son? Teddy and James ended up being best friends, but the over-attention to Teddy lead to James’ high occurrence of jealousy and drifting off to play in the sandbox alone.
Although his parents thought that having more children was the perfect idea to complete their wonderful little family, it was exactly the opposite of what was good for James. Albus was practically his own mini-me, and Lily was the little princess of the family. It is said that the middle child is usually the one that gets the least attention, but it was actually James that suffered the most.
Having overheard his father telling Albus all the things he had told James, the latter realized it was all a lie and he could never truly trust his father or anything he said. Sure, Harry always said James would live up to whatever blahblahblah, but in the end it was just something their father could say to them as encouragement and it wasn’t really a special thing between them. And of course Lily was the queen of the world, how could he compete with a temper tantrum throwing princess?
Needless to say, James learned to do most things on his own. His parents didn’t even notice his first signs of magic because Lily was crying about some nonsense. Then there were all his cousins coming over what seemed to be every other day, and they always got the ‘aw’s about how cute and big they were getting. He had Teddy and his other relatives, but his jealousy couldn’t even stand them at times. He clearly had taken some of his mother’s traits after all. After a few years of sitting alone in the sandbox and playing by himself or torturing the family cat in the corner of a room, James realized he could pick on his siblings: the most amazing realization of his life.
From that moment on, James made it his life goal to torture his siblings, play jokes on his parents, and trick Teddy day in and day out. No matter how much trouble he got into he never stopped pulling pranks and playing tricks. It wasn’t soon after his constant trickery that Harry and Ginny change their mantra of James being the one to follow in his father’s footsteps to ‘You’re so much like your Uncle George.’ Of course, their tone was never one of happiness, it was more of annoyance. But James took the comparison to his jokester uncle and his deceased twin and ran with it.
It wasn’t long before he had gotten his letter from Hogwarts and was, obviously, sorted into Gryffindor. It was at Hogwarts where James realized he could be anyone he wanted, and didn’t have his family to tell him otherwise.
James soon become Mr. Popularity, taking in the newfound attention of being ‘Harry Potter’s son’ and using it to bring him to the top of all the social ladders. Although he hated using his father’s name, if it got him friends and attention it was worth it.
Two months into the school year, he was caught pulling a prank on another classmate in flying lessons, which lead to his early placement onto the Quidditch team as Seeker. Just like his father. Yet again another comparison to how similar he was to his old man. A bigger fan of Quidditch then homework, James soon found that studying was stupid. Instead of putting an equal amount of work into all his assignments, he tended to excel immensely in his favorite classes and fail miserably in the ones he didn’t like. He obviously had the ability to do well in all his classes, but simply didn’t care enough to do so. Defense Against the Dark Arts was his least favorite due to his father’s random appearances to talk about his defeat of Voldemort
His ride through Hogwarts was an overall successful one if he did say so himself. Who cared about a few bad grades here and there? He didn’t need Exceeds Expectations to play on a Quidditch team, you needed to be a great player and that’s exactly what he was. Captain of the Gryffindor team his fifth, sixth, and now seventh years, James definitely had what it took to follow in his mother’s footsteps.
Although he could never handle being overshadowed by his younger siblings when they were first born, it was now his reputation that they had to live up to in school, not their father’s. He was friend of all, Quidditch captain, ultimate prankster. Everything he wanted to be, not what his father had wanted. He was a completely and totally different person then the little boy who used to pull the cat’s tail because no one would pay attention to him. He was the cocky, popular, funny, charmer James Potter. Rather like his namesake
Overall, James could never say he had a horrible childhood. His parents were always loving despite their unconscious neglect, and he still cared about his siblings even though they hogged all the attention. But just like his father, Hogwarts was his sanctuary where he escaped from life at home to be whoever he wanted and now it was his last year and he didn’t have a clue what to do.
