kalypso ABELINDA malfoy !
hello! introduce yourself, you nifty person !
name , Kalypso Abelinda Narcissa Malfoy
Kalypso: Greek, derived from ‘Calypso,’ the tale of a nymph from the epic poem, the Odyssey. Calypso has been unfortunate enough to fall in love with Odysseus, who stayed with her on her island for seven years. However, after those seven short years (which felt only like seven days), Odysseus decided he wanted to return home to his wife and son, despite her begging and offers of immortality and whatever else she had to offer. Once he left, Calypso gave up on life and simply withered away. The name, however, was not chosen for its meaning; Astoria had not read much mythology in her lifetime, and had simply found the name beautiful.
Abelinda: Latin, meaning ‘beautiful serpent.’ The name certainly seemed fitting to that of a Malfoy, or any Pureblooded family. The meaning of ‘beautiful’ was clear to all - any parent would believe their child to be beautiful, and picking a name that meant such only affirmed that. The ‘serpent’ part was, perhaps, a nudge in the correct direction, in their own minds. Or, perhaps, once again, Astoria had simply found it to be beautiful as well.
Narcissa: Greek, derived from ‘Narcissus,’ the legend of a man who fell in love with his own reflection. This name was not chosen for meaning, either; it was chosen purely for sentimental reasons. Draco’s mother was named Narcissa, and so he tacked the name onto his daughter’s name as well.
gender , Female
age , Fourteen
year , Fourth
blood , Pureblood
wand , Ten inches, ivy, basilisk skin center (inherited from a great-great-great-whatever’s old wand)
Ivy – an uncommon wandwood due to the difficulty of harvesting thick enough pieces, it is often worth the trouble, as it is deceptively strong
Basilisk skin - Basilisk wands are incredibly rare, as the beasts are rare to begin with and hard to kill. Due to the rarity, they often are passed down from generation to generation, so basilisk-core wands are either the heirloom of Slytherin-type Pureblood families or reforged wands from family cores. The occasional new basilisk wand will almost always bond to a Parselmouth or budding Dark Wizard. Very little good comes out of wielders of basilisk wands.
playby , Dianna Agron
appearance ,
Kalypso had always been told that she, as a whole, resembled her father more than her mother. Out of the three Malfoy children, she was the only one to do so. The majority of her appearance had been influenced by her mother’s genes, though the finer details had clearly been under her father’s influence. She resembled her father’s side and brothers enough, though she sometimes altered her appearance in ways to make herself look more like them - using a spell while at school or muggle contacts while away to change her eye color to blue or gray, lightening her hair with potions and spells, and so on.
Kallie reached about five foot even on flat foot, her mother’s height taking control rather than her father’s. Kallie hated how tiny she was (in that sense, anyway), and often found herself wearing heels to bring herself to a height that was considered more normal. Her weight rang in at about a hundred pounds flat, though sometimes it teetered more towards a hundred and ten. It varied, and she didn’t mind it too much - she was skinny, and to her, that was all that really mattered. While ten pounds may merit a size different, she was still in single digits. Her skin was naturally on the pale side, though she did enjoy laying out and absorbing the sun whenever she had the opportunity. Quidditch practices gave her more time out in the sun, and sometimes she found herself with a light tan that was quite unlike the naturally almost sickly pale skin she dealt with.
Her eyes were big and green in her face, and while they were adorable and could easily be turned doe-like and get her whatever she wanted, they were ranked among her least favorite features. She only matched her mother in color, and wanted to match the rest of her family more than her. So, as a result, she normally altered their color to a standard Malfoy blue or gray, using magic when permitted or Muggle colored contacts when not. They sat in a fair and pretty face, just above a thin nose that suited her face nearly perfectly. Normally, however, she stuck to minimal make-up; she found herself pretty enough and felt that boys could take her or leave her. She normally just wore a light foundation, eyeliner (on the top lid only, nine times out of then) and eyeshadow, mascara and lip gloss.
Her hair was naturally a few shades darker than that of her brothers, though highlights made it appear lighter. The sunlight brought out natural ones that made due just fine, though in the winter months she used potions and dyes and whatever else she could get her hands onto. She kept it a little longer, down to about the bottom of her upper back. It was naturally wavy and she often straightened it, braided it, and an abundance of other things.
Her fashion style was normally classy and top-of-the-line. She followed fashion trends religiously, and made sure that whatever she wore was okay by the current rule-book. She had more clothing and shoes than most people could dream, and her closets at home and trunk at school (a spell cast to make it bottomless) were more organized than anyone could begin to imagine - color, type, fabric type, and so on. personality ,
Having been born into Malfoy fame and fortune, Kalypso had, without a doubt, grown up quite spoiled. During her lifetime she had everything she could ever want handed right to her - all she had to do was ask, and sometimes, even less. It led to the girl growing high expectations of what she deserved and how she should be treated, and clearly, not everyone would agree with her on those. She expected near to immediate gratification of her wishes, though sometimes people didn’t want to give her what she wanted at all, let alone right off the bat. It was difficult for her to be patient - both with this and her other things - and often came off as the spoiled brat that she was; her self-restraint wasn’t at its best.
A bossy personality came along with her spoiled mind set. To Kallie, it was her way or the high way. She was accustomed to getting her way and was far less than pleased when she didn’t. She was something of a control freak and liked things going in a neat and orderly fashion that she had conducted and controlled, and when things got out of hand, she flipped. She had what seemed like a need for things to go her way and had no problem telling people what to do, how they should do it, and why. Normally people didn’t agree with her, though that didn’t stop her from saying it in the first place or continuing to dish out comments.
She was often considered bratty, though she was growing out of that as she grew older. Now the label that fit her better was ‘bitchy.’ It was rare for her to hold her tongue on matters, and she found her commentary was usually not leaning towards the nice side but more towards the side of plain old rude. Sometimes she would sugar coat things, but only if she was trying to be condescending or if she was speaking to someone she considered a friend. She loved snark and sarcasm though sometimes it was difficult to tell whether or not she was being serious or sarcastic, and that was the way that she liked it - let them question and analyze what she said, it would keep them on her toes, and that made her happy.
She was the type that felt that first impressions were crucial, and made sure that she was always presentable. How one presented oneself was a good key to how they were, so she was sure to always come off just exactly how she should be. She had been raised in a higher-up family, so of course she knew that presentation was key, and other details that were less important would come later. If one made a sloppy first impression, it was likely that she would either write them off or simply ignore them until they made it up and fixed the problem. Appearances were key in her world, and she didn’t appreciate people who didn’t find it that way. She could easily be described as high-maintenance, though she didn’t see her as a problem and didn’t phase her much. If a person couldn’t accept that, they simply weren’t worth her time.
Kalypso had what seemed to be a perpetual need to fit in with her peers, and to be liked. She catered herself to how other people acted and such, finding herself somewhat of a social chameleon. She just wanted as many friends as possible, to have as many people as she could know and like her. Perhaps it was fueled by her father’s constant turning away of her, but no matter what the cause, it was what it was. She did backflips to be sure that she fit in with the proper crowd and that they liked her just as much as she appeared to like them. She had what could be even considered a borderline dependent personality disorder - she was the type that relied on people, particularly her brothers (Deucalion in particular). She craved attention from anyone and everyone and almost needed it, both to feed her ego and to keep her going. She craved love, affection and attention from anyone willing to give it, though Cal was usually the person she went to. She often got frazzled when she went without getting the attention she felt that she needed, and only cuddling and pet names would calm her down (or so she claimed, but really, she probably only wanted the attention).
Beneath the self-confident and abrasive shell rested a fragile psyche that needed careful handling. She was self conscious beneath everything, constantly questioning herself and constantly paranoid that people didn’t mean what they said and hated her. Only those who knew her well could see through the armor she put up, and only those people were allowed to know that side of her. She was careful as to who she let in - after all, a person on the inside was the one who could do the most damage.

history ,
The marriage of Astoria Greengrass and Draco Malfoy had been one of convenience. They had gotten along relatively well throughout their school years (though he was older and didn’t see much of her around, admittedly, even though they were in the same House) and had never had a direct problem with one another. They had technically known each other for most of their lives, due to social events and their parents being friendly with one another, and so they were at least on a first name basis. Upon her graduation from Hogwarts, a ‘friend’ suggested that they begin dating, and so the pair was set up. After several months of dating, the couple decided that marriage was in their best interest - they worked well together, were both Pureblooded, and there was a mutual attraction. Preparations took place for nearly a year after their engagement was announced, and on a mild autumn day, the two said their vows.
They began their family not too long after. Two boys followed, only a year apart, and finally, on a rainy April morning, their third and final child was born, due to the fact that she was the girl that they had been aiming for. Their baby girl was christened Kalypso Abelinda Narcissa Malfoy on September thirteenth - a mouthful of a name for any child, to be certain. However, Pureblood names were normally like that, and Kalypso’s was certainly no exception. She was given the nickname ‘Kallie’ almost immediately after birth, so that her brothers would be able to say her name with ease (even after she grew older and her parents encouraged that she used her full name for propriety, Kalypso generally preferred her nickname over her full name).
The childhood of a Malfoy was certainly one of luxury. Coming from more money than the children could ever fathom, it was rare that Kallie ever had to ask for anything; everything that she could have ever wanted was simply given to her (on a silver platter, usually figuratively though sometimes literally) before she could even think to ask for what she wanted. Her early years were without a doubt easy; she never wanted, never needed, and didn’t have to lift a finger due to the House Elves that helped her mother run the house hold. She lived the life of a princess, and had all that could have ever wanted.
Or, so she had thought.
Throughout her child hood she had followed her father around with wide eyes and a smile, stuck to him like velcro. She was, without a doubt in anyone’s mind, a daddy’s girl. However, it was rare that Draco would encourage these tendencies. It was common practice for the man to shake his daughter off and tell her to go play with her brothers because he was busy with work, had to travel because of work, or something else. He was always busy, as far as she was concerned, though when she was younger, the hurt feelings were easily brushed off as she skipped off to go bother Scorpius or Deucalion instead. While her relationship with her brothers grew stronger, the one with her father deteriorated, and these trends were only encouraged with their father’s constant traveling for work purposes. She clung to the middle child, Deucalion, more than she did to her oldest brother, Scorpius. She was still unsure as to why, though she had clung to Cal for what felt like her entire life, and when he wasn’t around, she just made due with Scorpius.
Their father did, however, find time to be sure that all of his children, Kalypso being no exception, knew who was in charge of the house hold, and that they knew their family history like the back of their hands. By an extremely early age, she knew the history of the family name back centuries, nearly to the start of the Middle Ages, and could name members backwards and forwards. Draco also made sure to push the prejudice of purebloods into his children, and for as long as she could remember, she had known she was better than those below them - halfbloods, muggle borns, half breeds, muggles, and so on.
As she got older, she found it difficult to just brush off her father’s rejection of her. But, of course, before she could even begin to screw up the courage to ask him why, she was eleven and being sent off to Hogwarts. It was unsurprising that she was sorted into Slytherin, and the crowd she fell into was even more unsurprising. The friends she had at school were ones she’d known for her entire life due to family connections and what not. Their friends became her friends, and their circle stayed mostly that way - they were a group of people that had known each other their entire lives, had grown up the same way, and had an understanding of each other. There were a few oddballs that were welcomed into their group as well, though normally, it consisted of relatives and life-long friends.
Kallie had decided that powering through her first year and doing as well as she could had been in her best interests. She had hoped that getting all O’s throughout the year would give her a hug and a firm pat on the back, at the very least, from her father, though her hopes and assumptions were crushed. Her report card received nothing more than a nod, a smile, and a ‘good job’ from her father and some money to go buy something that she wanted. The money meant nothing to her; she’d wanted a warmer acceptance from her father, but had gotten nothing. Despite being used to it, it still hurt, and the warm congratulations from her mother did little to ease away the the rejection. But, she’d pulled on a smile and simply pretended as if it didn’t matter.
That became her way of living shortly after.
Her father only paid attention to her when he needed her to do something or when she had done something monumentally stupid and gotten herself into trouble. While acting out got her attention, she tried to not do it all that often - while her father being angry at her was better than no attention whatsoever, she preferred angry letters, meetings in Hogsmeade, and revoked privileges in doses. And so, she turned to other people for the attention she craved instead (primarily from Deucalion) and tried to ignore the fact that she felt as though her father genuinely did not like her.
While still young and only entering her fourth year of school, the girl has big plans for herself. She had enrolled herself in (mostly) advanced classes and planned on doing the best sucking up that she could to obtain her spot as Prefect in the following year. While still unsure of what her future career path may be, she was making sure to keep her class choices diverse so that she got a taste of everything that she could possibly like. So far, while she was bound to be hounded with work, she was just going to go with the flow - what she wanted in life would eventually become clear, and until then, she was simply going to let what was meant to happen, happen.
