Nobody can predict the future. Well, not the in muggle world at least; it seemed the fate of Hannah Delfore had been decided for her. Celebrating their daughters’ third birthday with fireworks and a barbeque had seemed to be the perfect idea to Peter and Hannah. Bringing family and friends together in the early summer evening, to enjoy what was to be enjoyed. Nobody could have predicted the outcome for the happy couple however as they sat with friends, drinking under the setting sun, children playing none too far away, the fireworks ready to be loaded and watched by all. Nobody was one hundred per cent sure what happened, although many took the guess that alcohol and fire just didn’t mix, which is what caused Hannah to burn the way she had.
The doctors could do nothing for her, they tried but without success. Peter and the family were distraught, little Leanna had no clue. She just didn’t understand why Daddy wouldn’t look at her, play with her, talk to her and why Mummy was nowhere to be seen. If this was supposed to be a game of hide and seek, Lea wanted it to end. Peter could not look at his daughter without seeing the eyes of his young wife staring back at him. Relatives tried to help with Harper but Peter’s despair was turning into resent; he irrationally blamed his daughter for the death of Hannah. It had been Leanna’s birthday party, the fireworks were for her...Had there been no Leanna, Hannah would still be around.
Yet the toddler tried to get her father just to pay attention, not liking the way she was passed around every few days to other people, she barely knew. It wasn’t long before Leanna was taken into care. She misunderstood, as any toddler would, thinking that Daddy would be back for her soon. He never came back. The couple who had taken her in were Jasper and Michelle Hunt. Unable to have their own children, they’d set out to foster or adopt, Leanna being their third foster child. She grew up as happy as most muggles did. She attended ballet, Jasper taught her and the other kids to ride a bike, annual holidays to Cornwall and Leanna felt at home. She wasn’t kept in the dark about her past, considering she always had a question to ask and appreciated knowing both sides of her life.
Unknown to everyone around her, Leanna was not an ordinary muggle child, in fact she wasn’t even muggle. As she grew older, strange things would happen; first, there were small things that would happen when Leanna became emotional. Nothing that couldn’t be put down to coincidence of course, yet her parents were starting to believe their daughter was disturbed from her traumatic past...Even though Leanna did not think of herself as having a tragic past, just a really bad beginning. However, as her eleventh birthday dawned closer the things became a little more than coincidence. Dean and Freddy, her two foster brothers enjoyed taunting Lee, knowing it wound her up and made her angry. They found the things that happened quite funny, but they also found her fear of the dark funny too. Most young children are afraid of the dark, not knowing what is there, whether or not it is going to hurt you and of course not being able to find your way out. She used to have terrible nightmares about being consumed by a darkness that no light could save her from, and her childish fear became more than just refusing to sleep with the light off. She’d never go through tunnels on her own, open closets/cabinets without a light being near her, basically anything where she might have be in the dark Leanna would never do unless someone was with her.
After the prank her brothers tried to pull, it was more fool them. After shutting her in a closet for two hours, she was a wreck. Anger, frustration, terror, fear...all contorted together made a horrible mixture in Leanna’s case. It ended up with her screaming and the closet door blasting off. Dean and Freddy refused to even look at their sister, knowing she was the one who caused the mass door-explosion. Michelle and Jasper had asked all three of the children what had happened, but none of them would say. So the subject was dropped.
Then it arrived.
Leanna never received mail, unless she was receiving an invitation to a birthday party or a reminder about the dentist. This letter looked as if it were very important. Intimidated, Lee took it to Jasper to open. When he read it, instantly he thought it was a joke. As did Michelle, but a man wearing odd-clothing appeared at the door...After an intense conversation, involving Michelle fainting, Leanna discovered she was a witch. The wizard explained what it all meant to be a witch and the responsibility that came with it.
Of course, it explained why she was such a freak, as her brothers often stated. Leanna was still ignorant of the magical world, and the history behind it all. She was slow to learn it all, but worked hard to prove she was worthy of being at Hogwarts. Her parents were very proud, Dean and Freddy continued to taunt her knowing she could threaten them with her wand all she wanted, but couldn’t do anything about it.
Now in her sixth year, Leanna is as stubborn as she ever was, with the constant dilemma of everyday life and trying to find her place in Wizarding Society.
